April 2011 Tornadoes

We've all seen a lot in the news about the tornadoes and floods in the south. It all seems a little surreal and I just wanted to let you know that we're all thinking about those who have passed away and those who have to deal with the aftermath. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to go through something like this. I'm sure you will all get through it though, so stay strong. Things will get better.

If you feel like donating, here's a link to the American Red Cross.

An excellent choice of colors for this model. The covered wagon is especially neat and who can't recall the classic outlaw poking around the buildings like in the old TLC sets? Very cool creation!

Hotel Christiansund

A spectacular model based off the real thing. The attention to detail is incredible, especially above the windows. The colors really go together nicely as well.

Oh...and Happy Easter everyone!

Missionaries From Space

Courtesy Small Church by Kris Kelvin
Breaking up the red is quite a tall order, but Kris Kelvin, as usual, pulls if off with perfection. I like how everything sort of has its place in this model. The church really stands out against the green foliage and the awesome stone wall surrounding it.

Back in the Day

Well, its finally uploaded! I've been meaning to put this up for awhile now. Anyways, here's my Old Town Building. I was going for the classic American small town look. Hope you enjoy!

Modular Stamps

I can't think of a reason why not to have these. This sure would be cool if LEGO were to do something like this....

Build and Win a Free T-Shirt!

A couple of weeks ago, I got a terrific offer from the good folks over at RedBubble, a site that specializes in all sorts of custom art works, in giving away three free t-shirts to the readers of Brick Town Talk.

How it Works

All you have to do is construct a NEW building or structure. There is no limit in size or shape. Build it big or small, it doesn't matter. The top three winners will be redirected to CEO Martin Hosking of RedBubble to polish off the details.

Submit your entries to I'm doing it this way because your email will be needed in finalizing what you want from RedBubble.

Deadline will be June 18th.

What You Will Win

I have three of the following shirts from RedBubble's "LEGO T'shirt collection" to give away for the top three models over the next two months.
Now since a lot of you are LEGO city fans, I think you'll like the OCTAN shirt the best, designed by "timeprowler", but that's just me. There's plenty to choose from.

The Judging

Judging will be based on three criteria:
  1. Originality and Uniqueness
  2. Presentation/Photography
  3. Design and Aesthetic Look
All entries will be reviewed for authenticity before they are considered.

This is my first time running a competition, so please feel free to raise your questions!

Hope you will enjoy this! Build something good so you win a t-shirt! Thanks again to RedBubble for sponsoring this competition!

Good luck!

Facade Street

Courtesy Facades-de-Bruxelles by Ezechielle
I'm sorry for the really late post. School was very busy this week and I simply didn't have the time to do much. Anyways, I found this great little street scene on Brickshelf the other day and decided to post it here. It's the same guy that built the African City.

Property Values Rise!

Well...not really. In reality this would be an eyesore, but in LEGO, it sports a realism factor rarely seen among models. The brickwork behind the facade is so cool. Keep it up!

Dinner and a Movie

Now this is neat. The "Empire" and Octan logos are awesome and it just goes to show why dark orange is a such a fantastic color to build with. I'm getting some nice 50s vibes from this. Terrific work!

A nice little shop with a great interior. I do hope that's not a dead parrot being sold though...

Custom Stickers for Modulars

Hello everyone!

I've received an email wondering about custom stickers/decals for modular buildings (i.e. store displays, advertisements, etc.), and I wasn't sure if there was anyone out there who specialized in that sort of thing. So if you do create these stickers and such, please send me a link, so I can put it on the site!

Thank you!

Buildings on Every Corner

Courtesy Urban Landscape #2 - 2011 by Jonathan Lopes
It's a good chance we have posted something from Mr. Lopes before, but recently, he posted an update of his town with all sorts of cool buildings and models. Take a stroll past the fire station, through the train yards, or to Al's diner. Or maybe you're after a tattoo or want to play some pool? Let's just say urban decay never looked so good.

Looks real, doesn't it?

More Wharfs Please

Courtesy Nordic Wharf by Hoexbroe
First off, I would like to thank for posting this. I normally don't check Eurobricks that much for MOCs (I really need to make that a habit), but this was hiding there under the LEGO Town Forum.

So onto the layout! The wharf building is just incredible. The old warehouse look is just fantastic...and the boats! Holy smokes those are cool! I love little layouts like these where there's just a lot going on, and I hope it spurs some ship or naval based building from the builders across the web. I honestly don't see enough of that.

Ironic how I find this at a  time when I was reading a history book about my town and their fishing and shipping industry. This has seriously inspired me to build something for my own little town.

Just awesome. I hope LEGO sees this post. I could really use a couple sets like this...

Trains are the New Thing

Courtesy Train Station by MrTS
Yes! Another train station! The facade on this thing is top notch, and I really like how the off set windows causes a little wave along the building. The arches and gray/white detailing above them really adds a great style to it.

The New and Old

Courtesy Phase-3 by alienwarblack
I'm breaking my rule of not posting digital models...but this layout was just too good to pass up. The design of the buildings are very realistic and no doubt probably took a LONG time to build, but it was worth it. Scrunched in between the two buildings on the right is lgorlando's barbershop.

Protecting the Shipping Lanes

Courtesy Manaan Lighthouse by Andy and Mark Destorga
An extremely well designed lighthouse. The American flag at the top and the lone tree add some nice character to this. All the colors mix together really nicely. LEGO should seriously consider making a lighthouse set one of these days, perhaps part of their Creator series.

Franchising LEGO City

What an awesome niche. The best thing about this is that there are even more stores to come. So stay tuned for more in the future!
